Whitewater Canoeing Director

Responsibilities: The director is responsible for working with the instructors and the Wilderness Program Manager to plan canoe expeditions in Western North Carolina for young paddlers ranging from beginning to advanced skill levels, as well as teaching campers techniques and skills to maximize their enjoyment of canoeing and improve their abilities. The director should have a solid understanding of and commitment to the educational advantages of tandem open-boat paddling, such as teamwork, communication, and skill development. The canoeing program utilizes our lake as well as many local rivers including the Green, Nantahala, Tuckaseegee, French Broad, and Watauga Rivers.

 

Benefits: Competitive salary with one full day off each week. On campus housing, meals in our whole foods dining hall, and access to laundry facilities provided. 

Qualifications: At least 21 years old, with experience in whitewater canoeing and teaching. Excellent technical skills in Class III water.  Current American Canoe Association Instructor and swiftwater rescue technician certifications preferred. CPR and Wilderness First Aid are required; WFR is preferred.

 Dates: Position is from May 31st to August 13th, 2018. In addition, some positions require attendance at a training clinic. Please see our website, www.enf.org, for clinic dates.

Eagle's Nest Camp is a coed camp over 90 years old located in the lush mountains of Western North Carolina. Eagle's Nest provides a strong, nurturing community where campers ages 6-17 are treated with respect, honor and compassion. Campers have the opportunity to participate in 1 - 3 week long sessions which emphasizes the wilderness, arts and community.
