Farm & Wilderness Foundation (F&W) is a 501(c) 3 non-profit, educational organization operating six summer camps for children and young adults, a family camp, and off season retreat and rentals. Set on a beautiful 500-acre campus in the Green Mountains of Vermont, F&W programs are rich in adventure, community, history, and spirit and foster an individual relationship with the natural world. While each camp and initiative provides unique programs based on age and interests, all F&W activities are shaped by Quaker principles and the common belief that individuals and communities are strengthened by justice, honesty, self-reliance, diversity and respect for all persons. People of any race, background, religion, gender, sexual orientation or economic status are encouraged to apply to our camps as campers or staff. Each year, Farm & Wilderness hires about 250 staff at our 7 summer camp programs, with positions that include camp counselors, activity heads (waterfront, barns & gardens, outdoor living skills, rocks and ropes, work projects, and art), cooks & kitchen staff, nurses, lifeguards, wilderness trip coordinators, and wilderness trip leaders. Work can seem like play in the camps because a cooperative group spirit enriches all the experiences of swimming and hiking, building and farming, dancing and music, crafts and cooking, and sharing thoughts and emotions.
Timberlake and Indian Brook are F&W’s largest camps, offering a wide range of programs: barns and gardens, creative arts, outdoor living skills, carpentry and work projects, wilderness trips, and so much more. Flying Cloud and Indian Brooks' Red Spruce Grove program focus on simple wood craft and primitive living skills. Saltash Mountain provides travel and wilderness challenge. Tamarack Farm emphasizes service, farm and work projects and Questers offers a longer wilderness challenge and dynamic small group program. And for their youngest campers, the Barn Day Camp offers day programming that includes swim lessons, arts and crafts, nature and trip skills, building projects and many other great adventures!
If you are interested in working with children in an environment that focuses on living simply in nature please consider Farm & Wilderness this summer. Staff dates are from June 10- August 17th.
