Outdoor Education Instructor
For the past 38 years we have offered hundreds of individuals the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to become outdoor educators by participating in our training program. Unlike most outdoor educator programs, which cost an individual thousands of dollars, we provide individuals with paid training and work experience. Individuals are responsible for providing their own transportation and housing. Upon successful completion of the program, trainees become eligible for an instructor position, pay and benefits.
Apprentice Instructors participate in a full time 12-week training program where they will develop the knowledge and skills to effectively teach and facilitate small groups. In addition, apprentices put their training into action while working with our clients. Training includes challenge course, rock climbing, expedition leadership, caving, canoeing, first aid, map and compass, kayaking and numerous related subjects.
Minimum 18 years of age. Have an intense desire to learn, work hard, have fun, and develop into a professional member of the Inner Quest staff. Current First Aid, CPR, and/or Lifeguarding certification preferred. Experience in rock climbing, backpacking, canoeing and other outdoor activities is desirable, but not necessary. Applicants who have or are pursuing a college degree are preferred. The primary requisites are maturity, sound judgment, interest, and stamina.
