Job Summary:

The Outdoor Adventure Program (OAP ) Coordinator, is responsible for the supervision of select programmatic functions within the Department of Wellness and Recreation. An area of particular emphasis for the Outdoor Adventure Program Coordinator, is co-curricular experiential education. In these multiple capacities, the Outdoor Adventure Program Coordinator will collaborate with professional staff and student leaders to set goals, supervise trips, develop budget projections, track expenses, process accounts payable, evaluate organizational needs, problem-solve, and serve as a liaison with other university departments essential to program implementation and success. In addition, the Program Coordinator will serve as a member of the Department of Wellness and Recreation leadership team; fully participating in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the departmental mission to mentor student leaders, develop programs that enhance the student experience at Regis University, and encourage a sense of campus community that reflects our Jesuit identity.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

50% Program and Personnel Management

• Coordinate and supervise an extensive outdoor program encompassing activities suitable for all experience levels in the Denver metro region, state wide, regionally, nationally and internationally.

• Maintain safety standards for outdoor recreation, based on industry norms and best practices.

• Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate all OAP student staff.

• Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate Operations Team internship/volunteer program (OPTS ).

• Promote the growth and expansion of OAP beyond traditional student’s base within Regis College.

• Conduct assessments of programs by designing tools to compile information for program learning outcomes.

• Organize, promote, lead, and evaluate First Tracks adventure program geared towards new incoming Regis freshman and transfer students.

• Collaborate and contract with third party vendors and outfitters ensuring Regis students receive the highest quality outdoor experience.

• Acquire appropriate permits for programs.

• Organize and lead workshops and tutorials centered around outdoor best practices and use of gear in the field.

• Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellness and Administrative Assistant on the maintenance and upkeep of Active Network software used for gear check-in/check-out and trip registration process..

• Monitor OAP student staff office hours to ensure time is being used appropriately and productively.

• Supervise scheduled route setting of the climbing wall and verify wall integrity and safety.

• Supervise climbing competitions for the Regis community on a reoccurring basis.

• Design, implement, and evaluate all climbing wall policies and procedures as required.

• Oversee the development and operations of the full service bicycle shop within Wellness and Recreation.

• Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate student bike mechanics.

• Maintain a fleet of rental bicycles available free of charge to the Regis students.

• Offer basic bike maintenance workshops to the Regis community.

• Partner with area bike shops when appropriate to expand services and supplies offered.

• Work with the Office of Residence Life, for developing the programmatic components of a CORE LLC . (Colorado Outdoor Recreational Experience Living Learning Community).

• Attend conferences and workshops for outdoor programming as needed.

40% Financial Management

• Forecast, monitor, and evaluate a comprehensive OAP budget.

• Purchase, organize, maintain, and replace a comprehensive selection of outdoor gear and accessories available for checkout free of charge for Regis students.

• Monitor and approve time entry of student work study employees.

• Establish, maintain, and grow relationships with local and regional outfitters allowing for the most cost effective utilization of their respective services.

• Report to the Director of Wellness and Recreation with the forecasting, monitoring, and reconciliation of the OAP budget.

10% Departmental Duties

• Obtain CPR /WFA instructor certification and lead CPR /WFA certification classes for Wellness and Recreation student employees and the Regis community as requested.

• Serve on division and university wide committees when requested.

Minimum Qualifications:

*Bachelor’s degree in outdoor education, recreation, or related field.

*NOLS Wilderness First Responder Certification.

*Demonstrated experience coordinating and leading outdoor recreational trips .

*Demonstrated teamwork, training and facilitation experience.

*Fulltime staff supervision experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

*Master’s degree in outdoor education, recreation, or related field.

*Student development experience and experience working with a university population.

*Bike maintenance experience.

*American Mountain Guide Association Single Pitch Instructor Certification or ability to obtain certification.

*Wilderness First Aid instructor certification or ability to obtain.

*Swift Water Certification or the ability to obtain.

*Experience as a Graduate Assistant within Campus Recreation.
