POSITION 1: Fall 2018/Spring 2019 Graduate Assistant: Adventure Education Program: Office of Campus Recreation
APPLICATION DEADLINE: Priority consideration will be given to applications received by May14th, 2018.
DATE OF APPOINTMENT: 08/20/2018--05/10/2019
SALARY: $10,000 (20 hours/week); tuition waiver up to 9 credits per semester. Appointments made after the tenth day of classes are not eligible for tuition waiver. Dependent upon availability of funds, period of appointment and assignment.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist the Program Coordinator of the Adventure Education Program. Primary responsibilities include the operation of the Minnesota State University, Mankato high ropes/challenge course and rock climbing walls. Duties include challenge course facilitation, rock wall instruction, program design, scheduling, marketing, customer relations, course/wall maintenance, rental operation, records maintenance, risk management, special events and departmental projects.
-Admitted to a graduate degree program at Minnesota State University, Mankato by start date.
-Experience in adventure education programming, rock walls and challenge course management.
-First AID and CPR certification.
-Admitted to Experiential Education graduate degree program.
-First Responder, WFA & WFR.
-Computer skills (Both Mac and PC).
-Interest in conducting research in the field of Experiential Education.
-Sound philosophical basis in challenge course and rock wall facilitation.
-ACCT Practitioner Portfolio of Experience.
-Documented ACCT Practitioner Certification or relevant rock climbing/rock wall certification.
-Available for GA appointment for Summer 2019.
-Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
Graduate assistants must be enrolled for a minimum of six (6) graduate credits each semester. Included in this assistantship is a credit waiver of 9 credits per semester. Contingent on satisfactory performance and available funding, there is a possibility that this appointment may be continued beyond the initial period of employment.
