Leadership of all things Play, Wilderness, and Zany Summer Fun

Hey You! We know you want to spend the summer in the deep woods hiking, climbing, horseback riding, and more! At Camp Augusta, we’ve got some wilderness trips you might enjoy! Embark on one-week adventures leading campers ages 12-17 to locations around Northern California mountains while facilitating development in outdoor living skills, nature appreciation, and personal growth. If you enjoy working with children/teens, are an adventurer of the mind, heart, and world as a whole, possess a curiosity and a zeal for constant learning and exploration - externally and internally, and love to imagine wild possibility, creative engagement with the world, and the ways to have the most fun... and are driven and organized enough to make some of it happen, we want to get to know you!

WE ARE SEEKING WILDERNESS TRIP LEADERS WHO...

  • Are at least 21 years old by May 2019 (3 years older than our oldest campers)

  • Are overjoyed to work closely with children for a summer and gain energy from time spent with kids and teens

  • Have experience in back country hiking/camping and either have a Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification or the ability to acquire one

  • Keep calm when contending with uncertainty in unique wilderness situations and problem solve in back country settings

  • Have a foundation of emotional depth and intelligence and seek to grow and improve professionally and personally in life

  • Possess the flexibility, open-mindedness, honesty, responsibility, and heartfelt goodwill for living and working in a tight-knit community

  • Think deeply, write articulately, and speak with compassion by nature

  • Thrive on operating with a growth mindset (rather than a fixed mindset)

EXPERIENCE DESIRED

  • Prior, meaningful work with children/teens

  • Some life experience is very helpful (work, independent travel, anything that demonstrates your resourcefulness and ability to get things done on your own)

  • We prefer folks who are able to return for at least a second summer

  • Ability and willingness to work at a sustained, high-energy pace for extended time (seriously, how's your energy level?)

Dates, Compensation, Benefits

Housing and meals are provided. Live in a cabin, yurt or treehouse! Meals are made fresh, locally sourced and organic.

Staff must be available from May 14 - August 10. Staff training is 3.5 weeks long followed by  9 weeks of main season camp. Opportunities are available to work pre and post season assisting with family camps and school groups before staff training (April and May) and after the summer (August and September).

Pay varies depending on experience. There is additional pay for pre- and post-season work.

The depth of training and ongoing professional support you will receive as a Camp Augusta staff member (in the realms of education, personal development and communication, and activity skills) can offer far-reaching benefits for many other parts of your life.

How to Apply

At Camp Augusta, we want to get to know you as a real human, not a set of numbers or boxes to fill out. Our application starts with you pondering on and answering 6 questions, the first of which is "Who are you?". If you are intrigued and delighted by this idea, we want to hear from you!

To apply, fill out our Interest Form, or Check out our website for more information about our program! Or give us a call at (530)-265-3702, we would love to chat with you!
