Elements Wilderness Program is nestled in-between two great field areas: Joes Valley Reservoir and the San Rafael Swell. These locations provide the backdrop to the rewarding and challenging work our Field Mentors do. Elements works with adolescent males 13-17 years of age with varying degree of issues such as substance abuse, depression, self-esteem, and management of emotions. Each group consists of approximately 8-9 students and you will work with 2-3 other Field Mentors.
Elements is unique to other program in the ways of being a small company that is owner-operated using evidence based models to address substance abuse and other sophisticated issues, using adventure based programming as another way to introduce metaphor and change with our students, and our Field Mentors participate in group living to bridge the gap of mentor and role model.
Our ability to remain small awards us the opportunity to provide constant attention to our staff, students, and program. Field Mentors will receive a high level of training and on-going personal attention each week. In order to give our clients the tools to be successful in life, we need to ensure our Field Mentors are equipped with the knowledge to do so. With the help of the great outdoors and a licensed therapist, you will support and guide the students through a safe, stable and healthy environment for each student to make better choices and thoughtful decisions. You will live, eat, and work together as a group and also help process and guide the students to more appropriate decisions in their life. While in the field, you will teach outdoor living skills, lead adventure programming activities (including rock climbing, rappelling, canyoneering, and low ropes courses), use problem solving techniques to maneuver through environmental challenges and lead daily personal reflective activities. Elements has been accredited through AEE since 2015.
