Education Program Manager

Education Program Manager Summary:

The FMRTC Education Program Manager is responsible for the administration and curriculum of 10-17 students in recovery. The education philosophy emphasizes an experiential and integrated approach that aims to reignite the spark for learning by making education relevant and meaningful to struggling teens. The program priority is helping teens to feel ready to return to their lives, including school, with tools and inner resources to succeed. Or motto, “everything is therapy” requires a commitment to emotional intelligence and personal and professional growth in all adults working at the program.

The education program manager oversees all aspects of the education program including scheduling and supervising a team of teachers, teaching, interfacing with teachers, schools, clinicians and other members of each client’s treatment team. Evaluating teachers and revising the curriculum as a whole are ongoing endeavors with the goal of creating the best possible program for FMRTC teens.


Education Program Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the grading and student evaluation systems
  • Ensure that the curriculum is creative, engaging, experiential, theme-based and in the outdoors when possible
  • Utilize innovative and effective approaches that address a variety of learning styles
  • Create and adhere to a budget
  • Adhere to Advanced Education Performance Plan
  • Schedule, supervise and support subject teachers, including auditing classes, holding monthly supervision meetings and effectively leading the team
  • Perform quarterly evaluations of the program as a whole and making needed improvements
  • Identify differing learning styles and disabilities and making necessary accommodations and recommendations to the FMRTC team and parents.
  • Enforce rules and disciplinary action with compassion without engaging in power struggles (Love and logic, Motivational Interviewing are examples)
  • Develop and maintain a positive learning environment in the classroom
  • Confer with and provide information to the probation department and other relevant agencies
  • Ensure that all grades, report cards and treatment plan updates from teachers are timely and thorough
  • Interview potential teacher candidates, hire and onboard
  • Discuss education plans and progress made with parents
  • Oversee Parent/Teacher conferences quarterly
  • Facilitate monthly teacher meetings/trainings
  • Administer all required paperwork including enrollment, reports, discharge, transfers, and transcripts in accordance with laws and school policies
  • May teach 1-3 classes per week
  • Perform other tasks as directed


Education Program Manager Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or similar
  • 2+ years teaching and working with teens at risk
  • Training in techniques that effectively address working with challenging students (eg. Love and Logic, Motivational Interviewing, Anger Management, or similar)
  • First aid/CPR (this can be completed upon hire)
