Assistant professor of Christian Formation and Ministry, with expertise in areas relevant to outdoor and adventure leadership including spiritual formation, leadership and/or experiential education. A full-time, tenure-track position available beginning July 2019. The position will be associated with HoneyRock, the Outdoor Center for Leadership Development of Wheaton College, and have co-reporting supervision to HoneyRock’s Director and the chair of the Department of Christian Formation and Ministry. Travel between the Wheaton College campus in Wheaton, IL, and HoneyRock in Three Lakes, WI, will be necessary.
Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
PhD in Christian Formation and Ministry, or relevant discipline to this role, with additional academic work and experience in the disciplines noted above. Evidence of scholarship and teaching in the following areas: outdoor leadership, spiritual formation, experiential education, and research. The ideal candidate for this position should be able to teach at both the graduate and undergraduate levels with specialization in leadership.
Teach sixteen credit hours over the course of the year in the area(s) identified above. This position also serves in an administrative capacity as Program Director of the undergraduate academic programs of HoneyRock (noted below) and the related camp programs that serve as the leadership development laboratory of those courses for the equivalent of 8 credit hours.
The Department of Christian Formation and Ministry offers an undergraduate program in Christian Education and graduate programs in Outdoor and Adventure Leadership and Christian Formation and Ministry, with a concentration in Student Development. HoneyRock, the Outdoor Center for Leadership Development of Wheaton College, also offers academic work for graduated high school students (“Vanguard Gap Year”) incoming Wheaton College students (“Wheaton Passage”), and graduated college students (“HoneyRock Fellows”). In conjunction with HoneyRock, the CFM department also offers an undergraduate certificate (24 semester hours) in applied leadership that involves multiple immersive experiences at HoneyRock over four years.
