Berry College invites applications and nominations for the full-time position of Assistant Director of Recreation reporting to the Director of Recreation. Located midway between Atlanta, Ga., and Chattanooga, Tenn., on a 27,000-acre campus just north of Rome, Ga., Berry is an independent, coeducational, liberal arts college with approximately 2,100 undergraduate and graduate students. The ideal candidate will lead a comprehensive student-centered outdoor recreation and education program that enhances personal development, interpersonal and intrapersonal competences and builds campus vibrancy. The Assistant Director of Recreation will be responsible for the management and supervision of the Berry Outdoor Leadership Development Program, an experiential education program that provides opportunities that challenge the head, the heart and the hands through group interaction and leadership development. The Assistant Director of Recreation will further develop, manage and administer a student led outdoor recreation program that meets the recreational needs of the Berry College community. The Assistant Director will oversee the risk management plan for the department and serve on division and college wide committees. The Assistant Director of Recreation is expected be a champion for the college’s mission and culture and be highly collaborative in engaging students, faculty/staff and other members of the community. Candidates should possess excellent communication skills, strong leadership and mentoring abilities, and the ability to create a culture that is engaging and caring while leading with integrity.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in recreation or related field required. Master’s degree strongly preferred. Two to three years of experience in campus recreation leading challenge course and adventure based programs. Graduate assistantship experience will be considered. Current ARC basic level and instructor-level certifications or equivalent in 1st Aid/CPR/AED, and a current WFA, AWFA or WFR Certification. Hold a current ACCT Level II certification or equivalent.
